Kitchen trends for 2018!!

Today, the kitchen is the focal point of the home, the place that brings everyone together at the start of the day or after a long day way.
Kitchens have changed a lot over the decades. Technology advances and changing social dynamics have contributed greatly to the rise of the modern kitchen. There is a far bigger focus on open concept homes that revolve around the kitchen so everyone can be together. As with any modern design trend, clean and simple styles have become favorites for homeowners with natural light becoming an essential aspect of the overall look and function of the kitchen space.
Here are the top trends in kitchen design we expect to see in 2018.

1. Smart Kitchens

Technology has entered the kitchen in full force and not just in the form of fancy gadgets and appliances. Today, you can have a kitchen with technology integrated into every function and appliance–from the faucets to the fridge to the lighting. This is what we call a smart kitchen.
Smart kitchens are an evolving aspect of design. In fact, a lot of kitchens today are built smart from the ground up. For older kitchens, sensors, smart gadgets and other devices can be added to for convenience to the homeowner.
Ease add-ons are motion sense-equipped kitchen faucets that can sense the presence of hands underneath and will come on automatically or try a one-touch feature. Refrigerators that can alert you when your groceries items are running low or a coffee maker programmed to have your coffee ready when you wake up. Do not forget to update your lighting system–allowing you to control all the lights from your Smartphone or tablet.

2. Cabinet Colors:

White and grey seem to be the two big cabinet colors going into 2018 still. Their modern clean look will keep them as favorites for years. But there is another color palette slowly making its way into the kitchen–dark jewel tones: black, navy, emerald green and even plum. It will surprise you at how well dark kitchen cabinets can work in and/or enhance a kitchen space with its dramatic and luxurious feel.
Dark kitchen cabinets portray full-on elegance and a deep rich luxurious atmosphere that the other options just don’t. They cast the kitchen in a subtle dramatic essence. However, you have to be careful that it does not overpower the room, making it feel perpetually dark. But more and more homeowners are getting bolder and opting for a kitchen with dark cabinet colors in 2018. While a darker color palate may not be the new white anytime soon, it certainly will get more popular with time.

3. Streamlined Designs, Materials and Textures

While styles like farmhouse and mid-century modern are still popular, homeowners are getting more streamlined in their overall aesthetic, designs and alternative materials for kitchens. Stress-free environments are what you would like to come home too, and drown out the day to day stresses of life. Removing upper wall cabinets has become a growing trend in the last few years since it opens up the visual space making the kitchen appear much larger and brighter. It allows you to utilize the countertop space more productively.

When we say streamlined, we don’t want to equate that with boring. So, consider materials with texture. If you are using open shelving, use rough cut wood to bring in natural elements or metal tubing for a more industrial look. Floor tiles in a natural stone or backsplash tiles that are sculpted or stacked make for the perfect focal point. These interesting textures are very different than the usual polished or glossy finishes we see everywhere.

4. Quartz

For high-end kitchen countertops, quartz still reigns supreme. When quartz countertops first came into the market, the main worry was lack of variety in terms of colors and finishes. But with time, the manufacturers have provided a wide range of colors to choose from as well as realistic stone patterns. You can even get quartz finished with elaborate swirls and large veining to imitate other materials like natural stone. These unique styles have become immensely popular.

5. Effective Storage

Homeowners are starting to look for better storage solutions within the cabinetry. These can include: appliances garages for small appliance, drawer dividers for cutlery & utensils, pull-outs for spices, tray dividers, roll-out trays and caddies for pots & pans; as well as wastebasket cabinets for garbage and recyclables and/or deep drawers. These will make it easier to store foods, drinks and small appliances.
2018 will also see a range of new kitchen storage options throughout the whole kitchen–focused on making daily lives more effortless and making cooking fun.

6. Multipurpose Kitchen Islands

Kitchen islands have become focal points and the hub of the kitchen since we are seeing less wall cabinet space in kitchen design. The kitchen island is meant to create an impact, and its design must make a statement.
They will have storage solution cabinets and be fitted with various under-counter appliances while also providing seating–serving as a casual dining and/or drinking bar. To accommodate the increased size, we are seeing a tendency for the kitchen island to extend into living room spaces in homes with open plan designs. This ensures the kitchen island can be multi-functional without cluttering up space in the kitchen.
Let these upcoming trends serve as design ideas for your new home. These ideas combine the best in functionality and aesthetics to create the ultimate kitchen.

Creating a Focal Point in Interior Design!!

The focal point is one of the most fundamental elements in interior design. It’s the first place viewers’ eyes should land when they enter the room and it’s the emphasis point around which you build the rest of your design. With that in mind, it’s important to make sure you’ve chosen the right spot for this showcase. Here are few points to consider in creating focal point.

Highlight the best feature

  • Windows and outdoor views: Views — especially eye-catching ones — are an easy choice for a focal point. Regardless of what else is in the room, eyes naturally travel there. If you have this type of view, all you need to do is allow the windows to be as big as possible.
  • Vaulted ceilings: While vaulted ceilings don’t seem like they require much in terms of design, it’s important to make sure they stay freshly painted and include a bold light fixture.
  • Interestingly angled walls: Consider making this wall as a focal point by creating an accent wall or, if applicable, playing up a feature likes a window seat.

Consider creating your own focal point

Other times, there aren’t any built-in features to emphasize and it’s necessary to create one of your own. While this does take a little bit more effort up front, it’s far from impossible. Again, there are plenty of options to choose from, so feel free to pick the one that works best for you.

  • Accent walls: Accent walls have always been a popular option for a focal point. Typically, if there are no built-in features to work with, an accent wall can be created on the furthest wall from the entry into the room. Be sure to use a bold paint color or patterned wallpaper to draw attention.
  • Artwork: A statement piece of artwork or mirror can carry a room by itself. In this case, you’ll want to make sure the piece you choose is big enough to suit the wall it’s placed on. It should be placed at eye-level and, whenever possible, you should add accent lighting to highlight the piece even further.
  • Backsplashes:Kitchens and bathrooms tend to have their own standards for focal points. Usually, a tile backsplash — either in the shower or behind the stove — is the best choice. Again, just make sure it includes a bold color or pattern.
  • Statement furniture: A large, statement piece of furniture can serve as a fine focal point. This is typically the case in dining rooms and bedrooms, where there is obviously a central piece of furniture in the room. Here, you’ll want to add accents like a centerpiece for the table or some throw pillows on the bed to help draw the eye.

Avoid these mistakes

In addition to knowing how to create a focal point like a pro, it’s important to know what traps to avoid. We’ve outlined some of the most common mistakes that have a tendency to muddle up a cohesive room design.

  • Having more than one focal point: When a room has two separate usage areas — say, for example, a kitchen and eat-in dining area — it can be tempting to create two focal points. However, that can confuse the viewer. Usually, the room should have one central focus, with a secondary if necessary. In that case, the focal point should be part of the primary use.
  • Forgetting to frame the area: Even if your room has a built-in focal point, it’s your job to add extra details to ensure eyes always fall where they’re supposed to. Add extra design elements around your chosen point to draw attention.
  • Leaving out lighting: Every focal point should have its own lighting source to help it stand out.

The dining area of the residence is a spell-binding space that has been dressed in white and grey. Stone and marble follow the eye here too and make an appearance on the table top. The granite glistens stylishly under the well appointed lighting that flanks the ceiling to cast a glow over the entire area. Upholstered chairs in a steel frame make for a solid yet elegant look. The kitchen sits to one side, with overhead lamps at varying heights hanging over the island. The open kitchen has a bank of appliances in shining white and chrome, while glass and wood come together to create a sophisticated space.

The staircase and an open layout

Hall: Corridor & hallway by KREATIVE HOUSE

The best part about the Reddy residence is the fact that its main hallway has an open layout. The kitchen has been left open and the entire hall has an open look with the dining room and staircase placed on opposite side, with a joyful lack of walls. The staircase is a glass and wooden affair that has a solid look. The clean lines and the fuss free look blends in very well with the overall elegance of the home.

Wrapped in a prism of style

Once you reach the apex of the stairs, you will not be sure what to stare at first – the amazing vista of elegance and luxurious architecture, or the grand view that faces you. The glass and wooden staircase leads you into a space that could very well feel like a walk in the clouds. The glass windows that flank two walls make for a view to die for. The recessed niches in the ceiling make an appearance here too and visually lift the space to heights of dramatic design. White walls and a prismatic play of natural light on them create a stunning effect. A potted plant to the side with its wide leaves adds a natural touch to the space.

Style, elegance and a generous sprinkling of luxuriousness create a beautiful canvas in this residence. The Reddy residence has been designed with a minimal look that also has a classical vibe. The classic elements help add an elegant touch to the entire space. The best part about the design of the home lies in the fact that it ushers in a sense of calm even as the luxurious surroundings envelope and excite the senses. The stylish surroundings will make you stop and breathe in the wonder of design that has been achieved. The play of glass, stone and wood heightens the drama as it unfolds and reaches a happy yet designer ending!

Elegant and Luxury Walk-In Closet Ideas !!

While closets are a staple of any modern bedroom design, the walk in closet is a very practical addendum to any luxury home and an essential division when it comes to decluttering your space. With some good design choices, you can have the walk in closet of your dreams. The first thing to decide when considering walk in closet ideas is how to create the most functional space possible. Here are few points to consider while designing a walk-in wardrobe…….

In closet design, there are three general possibilities:

–an “L” shaped closet
–a “U” shaped closet
–a straight walk in closet

Closets in the form of “L” occupy two of the walls of the room leaving you space to move. A “U” occupies three walls for maximum storage. The straight closet design allows for his and hers sides and works well in smaller areas. Depending on closet size, all three shapes benefit from an ottoman or seating area for putting on shoes or dressing.

2.Style is Key

Review walk in closet ideas and decide on a style for your closet. Contemporary styling is the best for a clean, uncluttered space to display your clothes beautifully. Have a definite style in mind to keep a walk in closet looking cohesive and stick with it!

3.Good Storage

Having dedicated storage for all clothing and accessories makes it easier and less stressful to find the items when you need them. Adding plenty of drawers to your closet design is the best way to keep items organized and dust-free.

The right organizational plan consisting of shelving, hanging space, drawers and cabinets keeps a closet looking neat and uncluttered.

4. Color

No other color in the palette creates a better backdrop in your walk in closet other than white for your clothes to shine. White is high-contrast, bright in what is normally a dark room and always looks crisp and new.

5. A Dressing Island

If you have the luxury of space, a dressing item is the perfect spot to drop all your things until you use them again. Islands come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Be sure to select one with plenty of storage drawers and shelves to maximize storage

6. A Vanity

One of the newest upgrades in the world of walk-in closet design is the built-in vanity. Regardless of the amount of space available, you can add one to your walk in closet.

7. Lighting

Illumination will help keep your closet bright, cheerful and help you quickly find what you r looking for. It’s a good idea to select fluorescent lights rather than incandescent to cut down on extra heat the bulbs give off.

A dedicated media room with high-tech audio and visual components is among the most desired amenities for Luxury homes. It creates a great place to watch television or movies and enjoy the program with minimal distractions. Since home theaters are specially designed to maximize the viewing experience, they allow you to enjoy all the benefits of an actual movie theater without leaving your home.

Creating the Theater Atmosphere

To create a theater atmosphere it is best to avoid rooms with a ton of natural light. This means no skylights and minimal windows. But if you plan to use the room for multipurpose, you may want to have the room with windows. In that case, consider installing blackout curtains to keep out the sun for daytime movie screenings while still giving you the option to open the windows

Similarly, lights with dimmers can be very beneficial as well. This type of lighting system can help ensure that the lights are not too bright as to cause a glare on the screen, but also light enough that no one will trip when moving about the room. Dimmers are a great tool for controlling the ambiance of the theater experience. And consider cove lighting at the top of the walls and wall sconces. Providing “layers” of dimmable lighting will give you total control of the “feel” of the room.

Sound Placement

The most important aspect of getting your home theater right is correct sound equipment placement. Surround sound speakers should be used, complete with a sub-woofer to really punch out the bass. Many home theater designers also find it beneficial to place padded fabric on the walls to help control reverberation (echoes) in the room. The walls, floor and ceiling should be sound-insulated to allow you to crank up the volume without disturbing others in the house. Products like fiberglass sound insulation, mass-loaded vinyl sheets behind the drywall, and extra-dense drywall, like Quiet Rock will help keep those dramatic theater sounds inside the room and not let them echo throughout the house.

The position of the seating area proportional to the viewing screen is critical to creating a perfect home theater experience. No one should be so far away from the screen where they feel they have to squint to see the screen and also that no one sits so close that they have to keep moving their heads to see the entire screen. Typically, the larger the screen the further back the seating should be. If the space in the home theater is limited, a smaller screen size will be better than a larger screen.

“There may be some instances where we simply cannot picture our perfect home theater. So, it is a good idea to contact a professional interior designer and see what ideas they may have about your available space.”

Best New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home !!

Every year, as January 1st arrives, we set self improvement goals to lose weight, to travel more, or to spend more time with family. This year, why not set some New Year’s resolutions for your home as well? Take some time to consider what will make your home a more efficient, clean and appealing place to live.  Here are few home improvement goals to focus on…..

1. Declutter

The year has finally arrived for you to declutter your house for good. We tend to attach ourselves to pointless objects we don’t need, therefore accumulating piles of clutter. Get rid of things you don’t need or haven’t used in a year. Donate items that are useful! You’ll find you have more space, and ultimately, you’ll feel good.

2.    Refresh your decorative accents

Speaking of decor accents – it’s often the little things that make the biggest difference. One interior design New Year’s resolution can simply be budgeting for a fresh collection of decorative items. This is a budget savvy way to introduce new color, pattern, texture, and finish to a space. Get playful with geometric designs or typography on pillows or change up a lamp base with a new shape of shade. Such items are nice investments since they can be reused in varied spaces or with other combinations.

3.     Opt for sustainable design

The future is sustainability. Being mindful of natural resource depletion, there are an increasing number of design options that are taking the eco friendly movement to heart. Selecting products using reclaimed wood or investing in energy conserving methods are the forward thinking staples that make for a perfect interior design New Year’s resolution to implement.

4.    Stay safe.

The beginning of the New Year is the perfect time to replace batteries in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. Make sure they’re working properly to keep your home and your family safe. Check fire extinguishers, chimneys, and flues to ensure they are working properly and are clean and safe for fire prevention.

5.    Create a cleaning routine.

Establish a weekly or monthly cleaning routine for your space this year, rather than letting the clutter pile up.

With 2018 just underway, start constructing your list of home improvement New Year’s resolutions. This year, make your home a more beautiful, organized, efficient, and happier place to live!
